I am slowly (glacially) still recovering from this

I am slowly (glacially) still recovering from this cold that turned into a sinus infection and am not doing much other than drinking tea, being force fed raw garlic by my husband and catching up on episodes of Below Deck while sipping on NyQuil but I was able to read @kellycainauthor upcoming release A KISS FROM THE PAST and I wanted to dedicate an entire post to it because I loved it THAT much. I've enjoyed all of Kelly's books and think she's a fantastic writer, but this book is definitely my favorite from her! It's a beautiful journey into a woman's discovery of her adoption and her biological roots which are revealed to be half Jewish. I highlighted so many quotes from this book while reading and really related to Nichelle's struggles around her identity. I think whenever someone comes from a mixed background, there is this battle of never feeling like you are "enough" and I loved how Nichelle and the hero, Clark, had really interesting and respectful conversations around they both viewed their different identities. This is definitely a book that will stay with you for a while and I find myself thinking of it a few times each week. I cannot wait until book two releases and am so excited for the rest of this series! Make sure to preorder this one for when it drops in just a few more weeks!

This past week has been a doozy and it looks like this week might be more of the same 😭 One of the downsides of having a toddler is they are human cesspools and bring back every form of sickness available and each time my kiddo comes home sick, it's like a countdown starts til I know I'm next... and well, I'm next. But not all hope is lost. Because I was always on different meds, I could never take NyQuil when I had a bad cold or flu. But I took it for the first time last night and OMG, I am never going back. You have NOT slept until you have slept dosed up with NyQuil. I felt like I was in a weird coma where I could kind of hear what was going on, but I was world's away. I slept FOURTEEN (14!!) hours and woke up feeling worlds better. Still sick, but so much better. Well enough to fill out the jury summons response form I also got last week 😭 And also finally attack my inbox and catch up on work for all my clients and prep for a big writing push in the next few days. In the mean time, I will continue binging Below Deck and trying to also entertain my toddler who is absolutely destroying our house like a feral housecat.

Happy Monday! I am hoping to track my reading better in 2023 and created a fancy Notion table to track all my books and it's been fun seeing everything I've read. I can now 100% firmly confirm I am a mood reader through and through because I raced through those thrillers and then did a solid week of nothing but romance as a palate cleanser! I was lucky with this month's books and enjoyed them all! I was happily surprised to see the "secret Twitter friendship" trope in LOVE ON THE BRAIN because it reminded me so much of my book and to see Ali Hazelwood pull it off so effortlessly left me with crippling anxiety and self-doubt for my own book... but we don't need to talk about that 😅 LOVE IN THE TIME OF SERIAL KILLERS was pure perfection. 10/10. I loved the slow-ish burn and the true-crime obsessed heroine because, well, it's me 😀 I then veered into YA territory with THIS VICIOUS GRACE. This book was so damn cute and fun and I LOVE a good bodyguard romance! I then was in a bit of a ~mood~ and went back to one of my favorite authors, RS Grey to catch up on some books of hers I haven't read. Loved them like always. Was pleasantly surprised to see the bit of kink in MY PROFESSOR, which is new for me from RS Grey but I definitely did not mind! AN HONEST LIE is a twisty thriller that I grabbed from the library. It has one of my favorite things in a thriller: cults. A fun, quick weekend read! HER PERFECT LIFE is my first book by Hank Phillippi Ryan but will definitely not be my last! I picked it up from an event at @anunlikelystory where she was in conversation with Ruth Ware and really enjoyed this! WHAT LIES IN THE WOODS was one of my @bookofthemonth picks and I loved it. I would have been SHOCKED by the story had I not read the book to it's right before reading it. Don't be like me and accidentally spoil it for yourself. And my final read was A KISS FROM THE PAST by Kelly Cain which will be getting its own post because OMG yes it was THAT amazing!! 📚What was the best book you read this month?
